Athenry Juvenile Athletics under 9 10 and 11 competed in the county competitions on May 7. There were 44 athletes competing on the day and they all did exceptionally well. At the above ages it is a team competition; athletes are paired off on their times and jumps etc. The club in the team events took 5 Gold medals, 11 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals. All ages competed in relays and took an amazing 4 gold medals, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

First up were the under 9 boys and girls. They all did very well as for all of them this was there first time competing on the track. The girls teams in the sprint took silver Saoirse Healey and Eimer Rowe, Nadine Mc Menamin and Caitlin Mc Cullagh got forth, Caitlin Mullen and Eibhlin OBrien got sixth.

In the long distance 300 metres Eimear Rowe and Saoirse Healey got silver. In the Long Jump Nadine Mc Menamin and Caitlin Mc Cullen finished in fourth and Cailtin Mullen and Eibhlin O Brien were sixth. The relay team of Eimear Rowe Saoirse Healey Caitlin Mc Cullagh Eibhlin OBrien Caitlin Mullen and Nadine McMenamin took Gold.

The under 9 boys in the sprints Geordan Mangan and Darren O Brien got Gold and Patrick Cronnolly and Ivan Power took bronze. In the long distance Geordan Mangana nd Patrick Cronnolly got gold and Luke Burke and Darren OBrien got Bronze. The long lump Callum holly and Luke Burke got silver, also in the long jump was Owen Coll and Cian ODonnell who finished just outside of the medals. The relay team of Geordan Mangan Patrick Cronnolly Ivan Power Darren OBrien Owen Coll got Gold.

In the under 10 Girls sprint Sinead Lyons and Ailbhe Keogh got silver. The long jump Sinead Lyons and Freya Bohan took silver and in the ball throw Megan Earls and Ava Earls got silver. The long distance 500m Danielle Woods and Danielle Collins got Gold. The relay team of Sinead Lyons Freya Bohan Danielle Woods Ailbhe Keogh and Nessa Kelly got gold.

The under 10 boys in the long distance got bronze Jamie Tracey and Ruairi Collins in the ball throw Shea Hennessy and Sean Byrne got gold, Owen Mc Guinness and Harry Power took silver just outside of the medals was Conor Gurteen. The long jump Cormac Hynes and Shea Hennessy got silver. The relay team of Cormac Hynes Jamie Treacey James Cummins Ruairi Collins and Shea Hennessy got bronze.

The under 11 girls, Finola Kelly and Sarah Gilhooley got silver in the sprint and the two girls also got silver in the long jump.

The relay team of Finola Kelly Sarah Gilhooley, Caoilfinn Hennessy and Sinead Lyons got silver.

The under 11 boys in the sprints Aubrey OBrien and Fabian mangan got silver Brandon Lee and Oisin Rowe took bronze. The long distance of 600m Brandon Lee and Dean Treacey got silver. In the long jump Alan Cahill and Aubrey O Brien got gold. In the ball throw Christian Mullen and Aidan OBrien got silver. The relay team Brandon Lee Oisin Rowe Fabian Mangan Aubrey O Brien Dean Treacy got Gold.

The next day out for all the medal winners is the Connacht championship on June 11 in Sligo. We wish them all the best of luck. It also goes without saying a big thank you to all the coaches and parents. Athenry Juvenile Athletics train 3 nights a week Monday Wednesday and Friday at 7 o'clock at Athenry Soccer Club.
