Frank Burke did a tremendous 10:45:17 in the Barcelona Ironman Triathlon last Sunday, 30th October. This is 30 minutes better than his time in Bolton a year ago and the main improvement seems to have been in the cycling, where he focused his training this year.
The Ironman breaks down as follows, with Frank's times in brackets for each discipline: Swim - 3,8 Kms (1:13:38), Bike - 180 Kms (5:37:21), Run - 42 Kms (3:48:07). Those numbers give some idea of his fitness level after two years of the very specialist training. Now he has four weeks to rest before again attempting to break his marathon pb in Dublin ;-)
Frank placed 65th out of 204 in his category, M40-44, and 420th overall out of 1159 with another 70 or so who did not finish.
The official name of the event is Challenge Costa de Barcelona - Maresme -2012, with results at http://www.challenge-barcelona.es/administracio/UserFiles/absoluta%20to….
We look forward to publishing Frank's account in due course.
