After years of talking and planning, the development of the joint facility between Athenry Football Club and Athenry Athletics Club has finally begun.
This week, the tree and hedgeline that separates the current Football Club lands from the new site started to be cleared and a site for the entrance to the field was identified. The entrance will be constructed in the coming week and we will hopefully be able to take people onto the site fairly easily very soon. At the beginning of March the first machines will roll onto the land, and a temporary track around the perimeter of the field will be established that will give an excellent alternative to running on the road. The track will be approximately 750m in length and 3-4m wide, and will have a couple of hills in it.
If anyone wants to be invlolved in some aspect of the development of this site, then please let me know: [email protected]
