Since its inception the fields of Athenry 10k Road Race has awarded specially engraved pieces of Galway Crystal to its winners. As the race has grown, and the number of participants in the event has grown, the number of crystal prizes we award has also increased. This year between the various categories we’ll be handing out forty-eight individual pieces of engraved Galway Crystal. The prizes that we award are of course in addition to the race souvenir that is provided to each entrant and the long-sleeved t-shirts that are on offer for the top fifty finishers.

We’ve had the occasional enquiry as to why we’ve chosen not to provide cash prizes, as happens with some other races, and the reason is that we believe that the pieces of engraved crystal are a more valuable memento to many runners when compared to the modest cheque that we'd be able to afford as an alternative.

Our principle objectives in organising this race each year are to provide a race that is safe, enjoyable, competitive and good value for money. We hope that by keeping the prizes we offer under review and by listening to the feedback we get each year that we’ll be able to achieve those aims.
