Run, jog or walk and enjoy being active!

The Midland Running League is a series of 3 mile road races combined with family fun runs and walks taking place in Mullingar on the Wednesdays during May. It is an all-inclusive event aimed at increasing participation in running, jogging and walking in the midlands and hopes to promote all the positive aspects of participation such as the fun, enjoyment and social elements of sport, and its importance in maintaining an active lifestyle.

The event is being organised by Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club in association with the Westmeath Sports Partnership and is approved by the Athletics Association of Ireland. A 3 mile fun run and walk will take place on each Wednesday evening during May, commencing this Wednesday evening (May 3 rd) and continuing for the following four Wednesdays - May 10th, May 17th, May 24th and May 31st. Each run will commence at 8pm and will be preceded by a walk and a 1-mile fun run for children under 16 at 7.45pm.

The 3 mile course for the event will follow a scenic route around Ladestown, just outside Mullingar close to Lough Ennell. The start and finish area are close to Butlers Bridge, just off the Mullingar-Tullamore road at Lynn Cross, which will be signposted. Registration for the league will be at the Bloomfield House Hotel and Leisure Club this Wednesday evening (May 3 rd) from 6.30pm. Entries will also be taken there on any of the subsequent evenings, or at the start area. The entry fee is รขโ€šยฌ15, which covers the five evenings and each participant will receive a souvenir t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded in junior, senior and masters categories for participants who take part in three out of the five events. There will also be prizes awarded based on participation and spot prizes for walkers. Participants are welcome to take part in some or all of the events. Refreshments followed by presentation of prizes will be in the Bloomfield House Hotel after the final event on May 31 st.

The Midland Running League hopes to cater for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities. A fun and social event with the emphasis on participation rather than competition we encourage as many as possible โ€โ€œ men and women, boys and girls to take part. It is ideal preparation for ladies who are taking part in the forthcoming women's mini-marathon and indeed a great way for the entire family to enjoy an active evening!
