While I'm sure she wasn't giving it everything but Sonia had to settle for second place behind Mick Kelly in the recent 'Fíor Crua' race on Inis Meain.

Hi all just a quick note to thank you all once again for your great support in this years running of the Inis "Iron" Meain. It went brilliantly and once again gave a huge boost to both the school Colaiste Naomh Eoin and the Island in general. A very special thanks to the people who helped make it a very special event. To Sean, Marco and Daniella Magnetti from Magnetti foods who generously supplied their fabulous pasta meals for after the event, Fergal and Tom O Dowd and their shop Exposure in Castlebar and Bridin in the local Comharchumann for all her help. The local Mna Tí who were brilliant on the day helping in the hall with whatever needed to be done. The elite time keeping team of Rod, Nicky, John and Ciaran who in their own opinion were the unsung heroes of the day. To Treasa and Padraig in "An Dun", who managed to feed all the hungry mouths on the island again this year. Padraig in "An Bar" who didn't let a single throat go dry for the duration of the weekend. Michael who ferried everybody around the island in the mini bus. Aerarann and Island ferries who despite the best efforts of wind and rain managed to get everybody on and off the island. Niall Moore who once again outdid himself with the wonderful t-shirt designs. Eadaoin and Brian Moore for their help with our special guest. To our special guest of honour Sonia O'Sullivan a special thanks for braving all the elements with her two children to get to the island and making this such a great occasion for everybody involved. It was a genuine pleasure for myself and I'm sure for everybody else to be in the presence of such a sporting Icon. Last but by no means least thanks to Edwina for all her help and with every aspect of running the event, from start to finish.

We did our best to keep as many of you as possible on the Island as full time residents but alas our masterplan was foiled and you escaped on Monday morning. Thanks to those stuck for an extra night for your patience. I have included a few photos taken on the day of the race, unfortunately the photos taken Saturday night and Sunday had to be censored. For those of you interested in race times etc. I have also included the race results with times.

Once again thanks to you all and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.
