***** RESULT AND MINI-REPORT FROM CONOR NOW INCLUDED BELOW *****
News reaches us that Conor Dolan had a great win in the Claremorris 5km at the weekend.
Congratulations Conor...
Conor's own words on the race:
I won the Claremorris 5km race on Sunday (26 September 2010) - my first win.  Not a particularly fast time of 17:20, but considering my lack of training lately (and a twisted ankle two weeks ago!), it was a lot faster than I thought I could do!  Just so happened to be staying near Claremorris over the weekend so went down to the Claremorris AC track on Sunday morning.

Not much to tell by way of a report, I hadn't intended this to be anywhere near a full effort but it turned out to be exactly that. I don't think i could have gone a second faster!  I followed the leader from the start and we quickly moved away from the rest of the 60-70 strong field.  Thats the way it stayed for the next 4.75 km. After 3km's, it was getting tough and as we passed 4k, I had dropped 10-15 metres behind and I thought it was over, but I somehow managed to get back in touch as we reached the edge of the track.

Now, I thought if I was still there going onto the track then I'd have a good shot, and I was right.  I passed the leader with 350 metres of track to go and opened enough of a gap so that I could ease up in the last 50 metres. 3:12 for the last km.

Now, I know it wasn't the fastest race but it was a hard earned win and as they say, a win is a win!!

It was a pretty nice course, and a well organised race for a very good cause - helping to build a refuge centre for orphaned children in Kenya.

I was delighted and also vey glad to be only running 3 miles unlike David Huane, who was running the course 7 times as part of his Dublin training!! I really don't miss that kind of training!!
