Turloughmore Hurling Club held its inaugural 5k Run/Walk on Saturday (28 July) in Coolarne.

Over 150 people – both young and old participated. The race got underway just after 6pm.

Race conditions were quite blustery and the rain managed to stay away until one shower midway the race, which was probably a welcome sight to some of the runners!

The first man home was Julio Cesar F.Castro of Kilmurry Ibrikane AC in a blistering time of 16:14. He was followed closely by Jason Broderick of Craughwell AC in a time of 16:24.

Veronica Colleran of Ennis Track Club was the first lady home in a time of 18:52, followed by local lady Sinead Brody of Athenry AC in 20:58.

Denis Forde raced home in 19:00 and won himself the title of First Hurling Club member home. Hot on his heels was fellow club member Daithi Burke in 19:38. Aisling Burke of Coolarne was the first Camogie club member home.

A special word of thanks to our race sponsors – Finbar Whyte and Sons Plant-Hire and also to Fahy’s shop.

The organisers would also like to thank the ladies who were in charge of registration and refreshments and to all the race marshals who looked after parking and manned the roads making this a very enjoyable and safe road race.

Finally, a great big thank you goes all to all who participated in the club’s first road race and especially to the local athletics clubs for their support. We look forward to improving and building the race in years to come.
