203 athletes gathered in Abbey today, Sunday 13 March, to take on the 10km challenge. It was an increase of over 50 runners on last year's race. 
 
The course a 10km loop had a couple of testing hills thrown in for good measure. Weather conditions were ideal, it was dry with temperatures around 13 degrees. 
 
Damien Larkin of Craughwell AC, who was victorious in 2015, was first to cross the line again this year with a chip time of 35:44. Daire Comer was second clocking 36:18 and just over a half minute behind, Kieran McClearn took 3rd place in 36:59. 
 
Yvonne Fehily (new member of Athenry AC!) was the First Lady home in 41:32 followed by Caroline Whirskey 43:06 and Maeve Flannery took the bronze in 45:15. 
 
Mairead Blake also from Athenry AC finished 7th in the women's race and was 36th overall in 47:00.
