The 3rd annual Annaghdown Summer Solstice 10k (and kids 1K fun run) takes place on Sunday June 21st the longest (if not the driest) day of the year. The main event gets off at 4pm and is preceded by the kid’s fun run at 3pm. Of course, like last year, both runners & walkers are welcome.

The past two years events have proven to be hugely enjoyable, despite Mother Nature’s attempts to drown us all!

As usual, the race starts at the Annaghdown National School and will finish at the Annaghdown Pier. The course is the same as before too, for any new comers that means that it is still the one loop and is relatively flat, relative to the hills of Connemara anyway! There are a few slight inclines but nothing too major. There is also the added attraction of running along the banks of Lough Corrib and since the race finishes at the Pier, you can emulate what a few participants have started to do and take a well deserved dip in the lake to cool off, because let’s face it, it has to be 3rd time lucky with the weather! Although, that been said, at least the rain held off both years for the duration of the race itself.

To get to Annaghdown from Galway, take the Headford road out as far as Regan’s of Cloonboo, take a left and go about 3 miles. Once you see the church you can start to look for parking. The organisers this year are trying to keep the start area free of cars so your help in this will be much appreciated. There will be more than adequate parking available in the area, but if you can do so, please car pool to the event.

If you are coming from the Headford side of the county, take a right turn at the Annaghdown sign, take an immediate left and follow the road for 2 miles or so.

This year you can now enter online at www.irishrunningtours.com, you will see the race listed under events. You can also print off the entry form and mail it in to us.

This is an AAI sanctioned event.
