The inaugural Connemara chamber of commerce Sky Road 10K challenge took place Sunday the 5th of June. The sun was shining, the town was awash with people for the Bank holiday weekend and the atmosphere was electric.

Almost 150 participants took and with a prize fund of over €1,500 on offer there was a healthy yet friendly sense of competition. Brian Coleman in a time of 37.47 mins and Veronica Colleran with a time of 39.46 mins were the first male and female to cross the line and with it pick up a cheque for €500 each. Prizes were also awarded to 2nd and 3rd in both the male and female categories and also cash prizes were given to our first teenager, first walker, first buggy, first fancy dress, and a veterans prize of a mid week stay in the Abbeyglen was also up for grabs.

Our inaugural race winner from Dublin Brian Coleman commented that is was a very challenging course but that the route and scenery was “simply breathtaking”.

The race went off without a hitch with a carnival atmosphere and a large crowd gathered at the town square in Clifden to welcome participants across the finish line. The race was a huge success and embraced wholeheartedly by the by both locals and visitors alike and will now become an annual event in Clifden’s summer event calendar.
