While there was poor weather predicted for the day the rain cleared on time for the race. However, the strong winds did make a challenging run even tougher. From the time the gun went off there was strong competition between Martin McEvilly of Roscahill and Ballyconeely man Sean Nee. In the end Martin McEvilly was first across the finish line in 40:58 followed by Sean Nee (41:10) and Sean Mulkerrins (42:02) from Carna coming in 3rd. The first woman across the line was Martha Linane from the Galway Triathlon Club in 47:32, followed by Mairead Welby of Oughterard (51:54) and local woman Sue Brittain who came home 3rd in 53:07.

As usual there was strong competition between the teams, especially between last year’s two top teams. In the end, last year’s winners, the Ballyconneely Team, made up of brother’s Sean and Seamus Nee, Alan Keogh and Michael Diamond won, making it four times in a row. Second place went to Lowerys Bar’s Team (Donal O’Brien, Bernie O’Malley, Claire Mullen and Chris Nee). The first run/walker was Anne Flaherty and 1st walker was Richard Needham, both regular participants.
